What is the role of water in compaction?

·  What is the role of water in compaction?

Moisture content plays very important role in densification of soil.

When the moisture content is low, the material is stiff and difficult to compress and the dry soil density is low , when the moisture content is increased, soil particles are lubricated and the soil becomes soft, plastic and easier to compaction. Thus, the dry soil density increased and reaches a maximum.

define- fluid, density, weight density, specific volume, specific gravity property of fluid

what is fluid. Fluid mechanics is the branch of the scince that deals with the fluid's behavior (liquid or gases) both in rest and in motion. This branch of science is therefore concerned with the static, kinematic and dynamic elements of fluids. Rest fluid research is called static fluid study. Fluid in movement research where pressure force is not regarded is called fluid kinematics, and if pressure force is also regarded for liquids in movement, that branch of science is called fluid dynamics. 2.   properties of fluid. (a). density or mass density:- (b). specific weight or weight density:- (c). specific volume:- (d). specific gravity:- (a). density or mass density:- The density or mass density of the fluid is described as the proportion of the mass of the fluid to its volume, hence the density of the mass per unit volume of the fluid. it is denoted by the symbol rho( ρ). the unit of mass density in SI unit is kg/cu...

What is plasticity index.

·   What is plasticity index:- The plasticity index is the range of water content which the soil is plastic. it is difference between LL and PL . it is a number no unit. PI = LL – PL Or, pi = wL – wP for cohesion less soil, PI is zero as they have no plastic stage.

Determine the height of a rectangular weir of length 6m to be built across a rectangular channel. Maximum depth of water on the upstream side of the weir is 1.8 and discharge is 2000 l/sec . Take Cd = 0.6 and neglect end contractions.
