Difference between compaction and consolidation.

· Difference between compaction and consolidation.

The following differences are as follow:-

1.   Compaction is quick process where consolidation is a slow process.

2.   Consolidation is brought under steady load where compaction is occurring under a dynamic load.

3.   In consolidation, water is expelled out from the voids of the soil mass under steady loading but only air is expelled out in compaction.

4.   Compaction is only one way process where consolidation is a reversible process.

problem:- A circular tank of diameter 4m contains water up to a height to 5m. Orifice of diameter 0.5m at the bottom. Find the time taken by water:- 1. To fall from 5m to 2m 2. For completely emptying to tank take cd=0.6

what is venturi flume - Campare venture meter and orifice meter.

Campare venture meter and orifice meter. Venture meter:- A venturi meter is a tool used to measure the flow rate of a pipe fluid. It cosist of three parts- (1). A short converging part (2). Throat (3). Diverging part It is based on the principle of bernaulli’s equation. Orifice meter:- It is an instrument used to measure the fluid flow rate through a pipe. It's cheaper than a venture meter device. It also operates in the same way as the venture meter principle. Venture flume A venture flume is a critical flow, open flume with a restricted flow, resulting in a fall in the line of hydraulic grade, producing a critical depth. It is used in very high flow rates flow measurements, generally provided in millions of cubic units.

Determine the height of a rectangular weir of length 6m to be built across a rectangular channel. Maximum depth of water on the upstream side of the weir is 1.8 and discharge is 2000 l/sec . Take Cd = 0.6 and neglect end contractions.
